SewnSpruce’s Top 5 Essentials for Spring Camping

Spring camping season is just around the corner, and getting back outdoors always feels worth the wait. But early-season trips can be unpredictable, so having the right gear makes all the difference. Here are my top 5 essentials for spring camping:

1. A Sleeping Bag Rated for Cold Temperatures
There’s nothing worse than waking up at 3 AM violently shivering and realizing you still have four hours until sunrise. With a properly rated sleeping bag, you can stay warm and actually sleep through the night.

2. Warm Clothing & Rain Gear
Spring weather can change fast. Make sure you’re prepared for cooler temperatures and unexpected rain so you can stay comfortable no matter what the day brings.

3. A Power Bank for Your Phone
You might not be scrolling much while you’re out in nature (I know I’m not), but having a charged phone is important for safety. Whether it’s checking in with family or handling an emergency, a power bank is a must.

4. Headlamp or Flashlight
Always bring a reliable light source. Your phone battery might not last, and stumbling through the woods in the dark at 3 AM trying to find the outhouse is never a good time, and I speak from experience.

5. First Aid Kit
Whether you’re at a campground or deep in the backcountry, a well-stocked first aid kit can be a life saver, sometimes literally.

Getting out into nature in the spring is one of the best ways to reset and recharge. A little preparation goes a long way in making the experience safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.
